How Do You Know You Cat Has Cat Food Allergies?
July 24th, 2007    Subscribe To Our FeedI’m concerned about cat food allergies because I have 2 wonderful cats. I love those cats, even though the tick me off to no end. One is very vocal and just won’t shut up, while the other pretty much keeps to herself but has an insatiable appetite for small wires like the one that recharges my cell or iPod. I can’t leave those out for one second or she’ll chew them into several pieces. Ugh! I still love them though and don’t want to see them suffer. So, you being the same way here is how to find out if your cat is suffering from cat food allergies.
Essentially, both dog and cat food are highly processed foods. In fact, you are really better off if you cook for your cat. My cat will cook liver for my cats once a week. Needles to say, they love it. But we don’t have time for this and so we must rely on processed cat food. We do spend some extra money and get the ‘healthier’ kind of cat food. If your cat has cat food allergies this kind of food may do the trick.
So What Are The Symptoms Of Cat Food Allergies?
One way to know if your cat has cat food allergies is to examine their skin. If it is flaky there is a good chance they are allergic to what you are feeding them. Experts believe that there are certain ingredients in cat food that can cause cat food allergies that may lead to balding of your cat. If you don’t want your cat to lose its beautiful coat, you better switch to another type of food and see what happens. In most cases, cat food allergies symptoms disappear once you discontinue giving your cat something that caused the allergies.
Here are some other symptoms to watch out for:
- loss of appetite
- irritable bowel syndrome
- diarrhea
- constipation
- fatigue
- straining while going to the bathroom
If your cute and innocent little furry friend is suffering from any of these symptoms then it is possible that he, she or they have cat food allergies. In addition to taking them to a vet, you should change their food and take note whether or not the symptoms go away.
